Sports dance is a new sport form derived from the integration of sports and dance art. It is a kind of sports art project that use various dance elements to show the sports, art and the beauty of health by means of scientific movement. The program is different from other dance arts though it is performed by body. The pure dance art starts from the expression of emotion, and pays more attention to artistry and performance, while sports dance uses various dance elements to achieve the integration of sports and art health value, and to interpret the concept of "sports dance, health and happiness".

Earlier this year, Paris Organizing Committee proposed to the International Olympic Committee that four new sports be added to the 2024 Olympics, however only breaking could be considered a real addition, as skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing would be included in next year's Tokyo Olympics. Tony Estangay, president of Paris Organizing Committee, who won three Olympic gold medal in canoeing, said the new candidate sports would make the games "more urban" and "more artistic".

Breaking is a difficult hip-hop dance steps, emphasizing more on the skills of steps. Various kinds of floor movements test the sport ability and skills of dancers, with high technical content and good pleasure to the eyes. It originated in the Bronx of New York in the 1970's and the dancers used to be seen as "amateurs”. Nevertheless, the break dance had already been included in the official competition at the 2018 Buenos Aires youth Olympics.

It’s believed that in the future Olympic stage, sports dance will receive more and more attention.
