[Olympic Museum News] "Preserving Heritage, Embracing Innovation: Seminar on the Construction and High-Quality Development of Sports Museums in the New Era Successfully Held at Our Museum"

On May 23, 2026, the seminar titled"Preserving Heritage, Embracing Innovation: Seminar on the Construction and High - Quality Development of Sports Museums in the New Era"was held at the Xiamen Olympic Museum.

Experts and scholars from a number of sports museums, universities, and research institutions across the country gathered together to engage in in‑depth discussions on the construction paths and high‑quality development strategies for sports museums in the new era, and to promote the protection and inheritance of sports cultural heritage.

This event was hosted by the Ethnic Sports Professional Committee of the China Southwest Ethnic Research Association, the Museum of Chengdu Sport University, and the Sports Culture Committee of the China Collectors Association, and co‑organized by the Beijing Xiang Sports Museum and the Xiamen Olympic Museum.

The opening ceremony of the seminar was presided over by Wu Yun, Executive Deputy Director of the Xiamen Olympic Museum. On behalf of the host institution, we extend our warmest welcome and most sincere gratitude to all the distinguished experts and directors who have traveled from afar to attend this event.

Subsequently, the keynote presentation session commenced. This session was moderated by Li Xiang, Curator of the Beijing Xiang Sports Museum. Song Xiuping from the Museum of Chengdu Sport University delivered a presentation titled"Using Objects to Verify History: The Educational Practice of the Museum of Chengdu Sport University", in which she shared the museum's innovative explorations in education, teaching, and talent cultivation, while also proposing new directions for the collaborative development of sports museums.

During the subsequent thematic presentation session chaired by Song Xiuping, Director of the Museum at Chengdu Sport University, five participating representatives delivered in-depth presentations focusing on the establishment, operation, and social service functions of sports museums.

Chi Jian, former president of Beijing Sport University, delivered a report titled "Oral History in Sports and Sports Museums," emphasizing the unique value of oral history in preserving sports culture.

Wu Yun, Executive Deputy Director of the Xiamen Olympic Museum, delivered a speech titled "Passing on the Olympic Spirit and Fostering Motivation for Progress," outlining the museum's efforts in promoting the Olympic spirit.

Yuan Hong, Director of the Qilu Sports Culture Museum, presented "Practical Explorations in Sports Museums Serving Local Development: A Case Study of the Qilu Sports Culture Museum," outlining how museums can contribute to regional economic and cultural development.

Li Xiang, Director of the Beijing Xiang Sports Museum, delivered a presentation titled "Analysis of the Current Status of China's Sports Museums," systematically outlining the current development trends and challenges in the industry.

Li Yang from the Museum of Chengdu Sport University presented "Reflections on the Construction and Operation of the New Sports Museum," offering actionable strategic recommendations for the new museum's development.

During the subsequent discussion session, participants engaged in lively debates on key topics including how to achieve high-quality development of sports museums, strengthen intangible cultural heritage preservation, and promote cross-sector collaboration, leading to several constructive consensus outcomes.

The conference invited nearly 30 expert representatives from relevant institutions, including Chi Jian, former president of Beijing Sport University; Dang Zhiqiang, director of Shanxi Sports Museum; Li Jian, director of Qilu Culture Museum; Cao Yuping, director of Tianjin Sports Museum; Yuan Hong, director of Qilu Sports Culture Museum; Huang Xuquan, representative of Guangdong Sports Museum; Wang Xiangdong, graduate supervisor at Jimei University; Zhu Lin, assistant director of Chongqing Sports Museum; Zhi Chuan, director of the China Modern History Exhibition Hall at Nanjing Sport University; Li Xiang, director of Beijing Xiang Sports Museum; Song Xiuping, director of Chengdu Sport University Museum; Wu Yun, executive deputy director of Xiamen Olympic Museum; Pang Xiaozhong, former director of the Sports Science Research Institute under the General Administration of Sport of China; and Chen Rongli, chairman of Jingli Sports.
